Sunscreen film in everyday life: features of use (20 photos)

Sunscreen film is a modern material that is used to protect the premises from the penetration of sunlight. It is stuck on the windows of apartments, country houses, office buildings, banking institutions, shops and shopping centers. Such a film has received great popularity due to its characteristics and ease of use.

Sunscreen film characteristics

The film is made of several layers of different materials, each of which has its own purpose:

  • Color polyester film. It serves to reflect a specific spectrum of solar radiation.
  • Metallized polyester layer. Required to create a mirror surface.
  • Protective covering. Prevents damage to functional layers.
  • Polyester resin connects all layers together.

The main characteristics of reflective films include:

  • UV transmittance;
  • level of blackout;
  • thickness.

The film thickness is important to consider when installing it on the outside of the glass. It depends on the thickness of the outer layer how effective the protection from external influences will be: the thicker it is, the longer the service life of the film. The level of reflection of sunlight can be 95%, and heat 75%. Values depend on the composition of the film layers.

Any sunscreen film for windows has its pros and cons.

  • Even on very hot days the temperature in the room will be comfortable.
  • Energy costs are reduced because there is no need to keep the air conditioner on all the time.
  • Do not let ultraviolet rays into the room.
  • Such films protect the upholstery of furniture, curtains, wallpaper and other furnishings from burnout in the sun, thereby prolonging their service life.
  • Films provide comfort when watching TV and while working at the computer, as they eliminate glare on the screen.
  • Mirror and dark tinting film from the street is not transparent, which allows you to hide the room from prying eyes.
  • Increases the mechanical strength of the glass. When it is broken, the fragments do not fly away, but remain on the film.
  • Can be used for a long time, provided that they are properly used.
  • The film gives the windows a stylish and modern look, decorates the interior and exterior. Suitable for any interior design.

In addition to these advantages, there are disadvantages. In cloudy weather the room will be gray and have to turn on the light. Some types of films are very thin and can be easily damaged, so they should be handled with care.

Types of reflective films

Sunscreen films differ in appearance and performance properties. In addition to sun protection, they solve a variety of design tasks.

They reflect a significant portion of heat rays, with some heat absorbed. May have different shades and degree of darkening. The darker the film, the more pronounced the mirror effect will be and more heat will be reflected. They create one-sided visibility, that is, from the room you can see what is happening on the street, but you cannot see the room outside.

Such a film can be internal and external (architectural). The inner mirror film is glued inside the glass unit and onto the glass from the side of the room, while the architectural film is attached to the glass from the street side. Have an additional coating to protect the film from the influence of the external environment.

Create the effect of darkening the room. The tinting film for windows allows only 1-3% of the total amount of UV rays to pass through. May have different shades, level of protection from the sun, different density and thickness. There are tinted films with glossy and matte structure. Such material is used not only for the facades of buildings, but also for decorating the internal surfaces, including those made of plastic.

Sticking technology

Sunscreen film can stick:

  • inside the window construction at the production stage;
  • on the outside of the glass (in this case, special types of film are used that have an additional protective layer);
  • on the inside of the glass.

Sunscreen film for windows is attached as follows:

  1. The glass must be washed very well and any paint or varnish must be removed. To do this, you need special detergents, sponge, blade or metal scourer.
  2. Moisten the surface with water.
  3. Next is cutting material. First, using a tape measure to measure the glass. Next, the stationery knife cuts off the film of the required size.
  4. The film is applied on wet glass. Gluing should start from the top corner, gradually moving down and smoothing all irregularities with a plastic spatula.
  5. There is another way of fixing the film on the windows inside the room. This method is easier than the previous one. Material is taken 2-3 cm larger than glass and fastened to the frame with buttons, tape or stapler.

If the need arises, the film can be easily removed, with no trace on the glass.

Today, there is a large selection of films differing in color, purpose and other characteristics. Sunscreen films allow you to create a comfortable indoor environment. In the summer they will not allow penetration of hot sunshine, and in winter they will prevent heat from going through the glass.
